I love the simplicity of floating shelves. I really wouldn't put anything else on my walls in terms of shelving. You can collect your favorite pictures in beautiful frames or your favorite nig nacs. I know designer Malene Birger is a fan of floating shelves as she uses them in a lot of rooms in her homes. The first and last pictures is of her home. Lovely! You can get floating shelves from Ikea for a reasonably price
