Guest post - Top Interior Design Trends for 2012

If you’re looking to spruce up your digs this year, there are a few ideas that you may want to pull from.  Luxurious fabrics, nature inspired fixtures and dimension will all play big roles this year.  When it comes to the pure artistry of things, here are a few of the interior design trends you should expect to see in the coming year.

1. Bright Lights
Though dim lighting, like candle light, is charming and can be enchanting, healthy bright lighting is coming to the forefront.  Keep dimmer switches if you like, but get ready to make room for chandeliers.  Sometimes it can seem as though “cluttered” or “sparse” are the only options your surface space provides.  A chandelier or other kinds of interesting lighting fixtures will provide a bit of decoration that can hang out of the way from the ceiling.

2. Texture
In the same de-cluttering vein, texture will be used to provide body to a room without ‘filling’ it up with stuff.  Glass is one of the most popular textures this year.  Hand crafted, colored, unique glass pieces that can either be hung, incorporated into another element of the furniture or are functional will be prevalent and show longevity.  Tile, 3-dimensional fabrics, grainy wood and metal will also pop up. Part of the idea is that you get more depth out of different textures than simply with different colors.

3.  Bolder Colors
A thousand shades of white, beige and brown have graced homes long enough!  While you won’t see a tremendous shift overnight with rooms full of bold colors, strong accents will make their way in. A reupholstered piece of furniture in a bright, yet rich color with fabrics like velvet or silk will bring just the right amount of color to the room.

Bring a taste of the new and fresh year into your home with touches from these design trends and enjoy your space as much as possible.

  1. The chandelier in the first picture is really gorgeous and it adds so much life to the living room. The use of bold colors is also a fantastic idea because these will definitely break the boring plain looks of certain rooms or homes. A few popping colors will surely bring about more interest to the overall interior design. By the way, the black and white floor is really something different and very catchy. Thank you for sharing these tips.
